Planting Design
Integral to any landscape is the arrangement of plants. At RBLA, planting design always evolves with the hardscape elements of walls, terraces, walkways, drives, and swimming pools, never after the fact. Trees offer a natural form of architecture, providing natural beauty, canopy, shadow, and texture in all seasons. As such, trees are the starting point in the plant procurement process and the forms of each specimen cue subsequent planting decisions. Schemes are further defined by geometries and structure imparted by shrubs and perennials, grasses, meadows, and lawns. Whether clipped and manicured or billowy and flowing, placement of plantings is approached with a painterly perspective combined with opportunities and constraints of scale, micro-climate, client preferences, and long-term maintenance.
